    Driveline Ads

I am a new NCRS member and got the recent issue of The NCRS Driveline. I noticed many ads by members looking for the former owners of their Corvettes. I thought that I could go this route, too. But, then I wondered why a former owner would respond to one of these ads, even if he read one, which is unlikely.

I have no provenance for my car. The seller, Pro Team, told me that privacy laws prevented them from giving out any information. Since my car is low mileage, numbers matching, and with a rare combo of options (Red/red L76 with C60), having a provenance would be most welcome. My question is, do these ads garner any meaningful results? -Clark

Clark, occasionally they do get some results, but the NCRS world just touches a small part of the ownership. The good thing is that the ads are free. Go for it.

I stick and ad in about once a year or so for my first car, a '61. No hits yet, but I am the eternal optimist.

Pro Team should give you a title from the person they purchased it from, contact that person and bypass Pro Team.

And then from another perspective: for the first time ever I responded to a for sale ad today that appeared twice for the exact same item in the latest Driveline, each ad with a different E-Mail address, stating that pictures could be sent of the item if requested. My request was blocked out of both E-Mail addresses. Then I checked the TDB member list to locate the seller through his NCRS member number in order to send a message that way, without any success. Their number was one with only 4 digits, so you'd think they would be old enough and have some experience at selling through the driveline by now.

            Re: Driveline Ads

I got a response to my Driveline ad from an NCRS member who accompanied the original owner of my 67 to Byrne Bros Chevrolet in White Plains NY when he picked up the car in 1967. Unfortunately , the original owner died in 1976 but I was able to meet his brother, who last saw the car when he was on leave from Viet Nam. He said he got a chill down his spine when I pulled the car into his driveway. He still had a photo of the car and his brother, on the wall in his office, gave me a copy. I let him drive the car, we posed for a photo, and I drove back home. It meant alot to him and it was fascinating for me to learn about the history of my car. Incidentally, the original owner passed away at an early age from oral cancer, a condition I have diagnosed several times during my career (dentist). If only our paths had crossed in a different place and time, I like to think I might have saved his life. Driveline ads work.

Clark I posted in the Driveline to find the current owner of a 64 Corvette convertible that my wife used to own (40867S108040). Did this for a few years off and on until last summer. Another member of NCRS had read the add and called me last year and gave me information of who the present owner could be. I contacted this person and he verified the VIN I had from her Corvette Owners Card was the same VIN of his car located in FL.

Her car was bought new but traded in 1966 for another convertible in MO. Her 64 Corvette was Riverside Red and I have seen her car on an home video tape. It is red. The current owner had himself painted the car white and had previous experience with body work on other Corvettes. He said he saw no evidence that his car was ever Riverside Red.

Clark, If you haven't already, make a copy of the title from PT. Then get it registered. Get an anitque tag Cheaper. Bill.

Check the C-2 Registry for starters. You never know. I 'm still looking for old VIN #'s so I can post more cars just in case someone wants to know when I was its owner. I've kept a lot of paperwork from the 'good old days'. If I got it-you can have it!!

I think ProTeam is giving you a line of BS. Here is a car that they just sold and they didn't have any problem showing all the NCRS awards the car had received, along with the previous owners name.

                      Re: Driveline Ads

As a business, you can appreciate all the calls they must receive re: past ownership, repair receipts, papertrail etc. Its easier to say the info is confidential on the lower value car than it is to 'brag' and display all the awards in the owners names that the higher value cars have. If "some" investigating turns up nothing, a personal call or visitation as I have done in the past to the right salesperson might prove worthwhile.
