    L-36 Head Bolts-Markings

I just pulled my original head bolts out after 43 yrs of service for a rebuild of my org L-36.

They are a slightly indented head bolt with a prominent "cross" (+) in the center. The ends of the cross extend virtually all the way to the perimeter. The manufacturers id, "M" is seen in one quadrant of the "cross".

Can I clean up and reuse the org bolts or are the repops from CC or Paragon the same head markings for judging and better to go with new bolts steel bolts anyway..........thank-you.

Since this is a "first run" engine (i.e. it's apparently never rebuilt before and, therefore, the last time the bolts were torqued was at Tonawanda), you can reuse the head bolts IF they are free from any sort of thread damage.

      Hi Keith
Repops are not the same. I sold my repops. Bought a set of supposedly NOS GM Head bolts and again very close but not the same as originals. Do as what Joe has suggested. Have the engine builder check it out. My engine builder used the best ones I had for my car. I may have a couple extras if you are strapped for some.
