In Noland's book Vol. 1 on page 72 there is a drawing of part number 3706711, an exhaust pipe support bracket that bolts to the transmission adapter. I cannot find this part listed in the 53-55 parts book. Can anyone shed light on this?
The reason I was looking it up is to see if this part may have been used on any other vehicle. Reason why I wonder is years ago I found one bolted in a car in a wrecking yard. Didn't notice what type of car it was. Seems odd in hindsight as this part is only useful in a car with dual exhaust. Were there other GM dual exhaust cars back in the day?
At any rate I gave that part away because it was not a Corvette part as far as I knew and bought a repo. The repo was quite crude so I returned it and decided to make my own repo. But first I traced that part as a pattern. I started to make it but got sidetracked. 10 years later I need to finish that part.
Knowing the exhaust pipe diameter, I've blown Noland's drawing up to full scale to compare with the pattern I traced from the repo years ago. They are the same on the left (pipe clamp) side. But they differ in lenght on the right side where the bolts go. So now I'm wondering which is correct. The Noland illustrated part seems more like the part I gave away than the repo part. To resolve this discrepancy I wonder if anyone that has an original part could lay it on piece of paper, trace it and fax the tracing to me. My fax number is 425-427-6357.
