    Re: 57 FI engine

The engine pad stamp looks like it ends in a "F".
The only 57 Corvette engine code ending with an "F" is EF which is a 220 HP engine.

.....and an exhaust manifold that appears to have been drilled for a choke heat tube, and narrow groove crank and water pump pullies, and 2bbl heads.

The Ebay seller of the Corvette FI engine provided me with the engine stamp number which is F1219F.
The engine casting date is L156 which is Dec 16, 1956 with a build date of Dec 19.
The F suffix for these dates says the engine is a 283 CI, 185 HP, 2 barrel, Powerglide engine used in a passenger car or a truck.
The 4360 FI is good for that date but I am not sure of it's use in a passenger car.

KEN KAYSER SAYS : 1040 Corvettes in 57 had fuel injection, and 1530 passenger Chevrolets had the option also. On 3-7-57, Chevrolet officially released RPO578 Fuel Injection for passenger cars per ECR #8289. The 4520 units were immediately recalibrated to 250hp and released for this use.

All 4360 units in use for earlier 283hp Corvettes and any existing units were to be used up prior to a use recalibrated 4520 units for 283hp service.

So I do not think a 4360 Passenger car unit ever showed up at a Chevy dealer. Nevere say never.

Frank Scibica held a fuel injection seminar along with Ken Kayser at the RP engineering center at an NCRS regional event. Frank showed us slides, etc that pointed out there were NO 7014360 units used on passenger cars because Chevrolet didn't want to risk their bread and butter line of such a primitive fuel injection. Now there were a few pilot cars running around with a '4360 unit but these were not made available to the public.
Look at Ken Kaysers book, "The History of GM's Ramjet Fuel Injection On the Chevrolet V-8"etc to back up the above statement.
If you are interested in fuel injections this book is a must. JD

Great book John. Sure answered question we all have wondered about for years.

Now I know why they say, "OF THE 1040 FUEL INJECTED 57 CORVETTES MADE, THERE ARE ONLY 2800 LEFT"
