    Joe Luccia - 1969 Steering Column #

    Joe,
There are two early 1969 steering columns with bowls that rotate with the manual or automatic shifter. Later in 1969 a stationary plastic shroud was added to both columns so that the operator would no longer see the bowl rotate when shifting into Reverse (manual shift) or anytime the automatic was shifted. I would like the part number(s) for the 1969 early standard and early T&T columns if you can find them.

    Thank you,
    Jim Shea

There were at least THREE different part numbers, and possibly more, for BOTH the non-t/t and the t/t columns. Here they are:

    non t/t:

    GM #7805341
    GM #7807829
    GM #7807890

    t/t:

    GM #7804347
    GM #7807828
    GM #7808586

Thanks for the part numbers, Joe

You might have heard that all Delphi retirees have lost their medical insurance. I'm retired and over 65; and I am lucky that my supplemental coverage has been through my wife's State of Michigan teacher retirement package. So I haven't been affected. But any Delphi people that retired under 65 and thought that they had coverage are going to be stuck with health insurance costs of many hundreds of dollars per month. Those over 65 were promised assistance with their supplemental coverage, that is gone as well.

So I think that I better request information and drawings on a very limited basis from now on. It isn't going to get any better.

I had heard that there were major employee effects as a result of the DELPHI bankruptcy, but I didn't know all the specifics of it. I'm sorry to hear of the problems created. And, you're correct; we have not seen anywhere near the end of it. The "world we have known" for most of our lives is coming crashing down at our feet.

37 years with GM, 2 with Delphi. I stuck around the extra two years and therefore had to retire from Delphi not GM. I had grand visions of how Delphi/Saginaw would thrive. But of course nobody could anticipate the economy. Saginaw's long term prospects are still fairly good but nobody can get financing at this time to purchase Saginaw from Delphi.
