I see that some guy's are using rotella t 15 40 oil, i guess because of the zinc thing, this is also the oil that my engine builder said to use, so here is my dumb question ,can we use say( synthetic 10-30 )in our older engines. does syn have the protection needed for us.

Yes, you can use certain synthetics under certain circumstances, but the questions I would ask is why would you want to?

The last oil change on my 2001 Tahoe the mechanic advised going to synthetic. Never had any oil leaks. A few months later I spotted some oil drips on my driveway where I parked the Tahoe. Took the car in for inspection and service and needed a new manifold gasket. Not cheap. You decide.- Top
