    Re: You're not alone

Thanks for the interesting insight, Rob.

Based on the consistency of visitors day after day (about 350), I would conclude that the individuals visiting are the same ones, and are finding the site interesting. They will likely continue to visit until their trial period expires.

Then, if they have found the site interesting enough to continue, they have to find a way around the gate, or join up. NCRS should have done this years ago.

Chuck, Rob -- I'm surprised at the constant numbers throughout the days of the week. Does this mean that we're ALL retired ?

Would'a thought there'd be the eBay phenomenon; ie a heavy traffic peak on Sunday.

By "visitors" do you mean NCRS members or non-members on the 30-day trial, or the sum of both?

As a member and an old retired fart, I've been spewing forth drival for the better part of 8 months now and they havn't thrown me off yet - but I've been warned.

Duh, of course...sorry about the head space there.

OK, I think I have it now...about 350 registered users (I assume "registered users" to include NCRS members, plus "registered" non-member visitors), visited this site daily in February.

Further, only 3619 people on earth have ever darkened the portal of the new NCRS TDB with their presence. Got it. About ten percent recidivism; that's good, right?.

What gets me, Chuck, is that out of an average of 50 members on line during daylight hours (you should try dialing in at 2am to see who can't sleep [Aussies and Europeans excepted]), is that there are so many 4-digit and even earlier members, who have rarely or never posted. Think of all that knowledge out there... just lurking. Surely they have something to say ?

                    Re: You're not alone

So, we're approcaching 50,000 members (Be them active or non active or retired #'s or whatever). Are we growing, have we reached our peak, or have we flat lined as a group of enthusiasts? Has the economy done this to our HOBBY / Investments? What's the opinion here?

Consider me realitively new to this board....

                      Re: You're not alone

Wayne, I think you were pretty close to the mark with your first post...we're mostly retired...and OLD.

With age comes comfort in your experience and knowledge, whether deserved or not.

On the other hand, an irritating aspect of age is that the young think you are old and stupid, and generally are not interested in what you have to say. The phrase "old white men" has now become popular for description of what's wrong with the world.

So, many of us in our non-NCRS lives get accustomed to being ignored, and frankly, become reticent to offer our opinions. We modify our priorities to keep our counsel and follow other pursuits. Why subject ourselves to mistreatment trying to help those that don't want help? I'm afraid that may carry over into our NCRS "lives" as well. Once you've done all the things members are asking questions about, why hang around lurking?

Or...It could be that those older members with four digit numbers got into NCRS for the personal interaction of meeting new friends with similar interests; the impersonal cyber age just doesn't "cut it" for them. The loss of that knowledge is lamentable, but I don't expect that to change.

P.S. I have signed on at 2:00 or 3:00 am because of insomnia...kind of embarrassing when there are only four of you signed on.

Those figures only represent registered members (only they can become registered board users) so non-member visitors are not included in these figures.

Chuck, what's this rubbish about being old and no body listening. About a year ago you gave me a paint tip that worked out really well, I would rather take an answer of someone whose got the experience rather than someone who thinks they have the experience. Don't worry about your age just worry when your to old to drive your Vette.

                              Stewart, from another Stuart;

I probably made this point before, but during my working years I always enjoyed observing the young re-inventing the wheel, so to speak. It was Dajavu (sp?) all the time. The same old problems that were solved years before were being solved again by the young generation of engineers. They would run into a problem and, rather than research into the history of it, they would try to solve it again. They would NEVER consult with an old timer who might have run into the same situation years ago. However, there were exceptions; those were the few who would come around and pick your brains. They saved themselves a lot of time, solved their problem, and rose up fast in the company as a result. I had always tried to be that way myself when I was younger. I learned early on to respect the elderly and appreciate their vast knowledge learned through experience. Saved me a lot of time and now I have a chance to impart some of their knowledge onto the next generation - if they are willing to listen for a few minutes to an old fart.
