    Dated coded windshield sources

I'm trying to decide if I want a correct date coded LOF windshield or just a regular PPG one for my 69. From a dollar/point perspective the PPG is the way to go but since I'm trying to make this resto as authentic as possible I think my only honest choice is to go with a LOF one...

Anyways, I found several vendors that sell dated LOF windshields but I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are more than one source or if they all come from the same place?

Any of the major vendors like Dr Rebuild, Corvette Central and Zip carry them but I also know of OEM Glass and Auto City Classics and of course Pilkington Glass. Would Pilkington be THE supplier for EVERYONE or does OEM Glass and Auto City Classics make and date their own glass? If they each make and date their own then can anyone comment on how they each judge or are they all good.

The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if I need to be concerned about where I get the windshield from or will they all judge the same.

    Thanks

Dr. Rebuild, Zip, CC all buy their glass from one of the mentioned vendors. There is not a 100 point windshield being reproduced. The banding is not totally typical of the original '68

Thanks Dick. I was some what aware that the banding will take a small point hit but wasn't sure if they all took that hit but I guess they do. In regards to the actual logo that they put on, do they all reproduce it the same for equal points or do some get more points than others?

The reason I'm asking is because the prices vary partly because of the initial cost of the glass but also due to shipping costs to Canada so if they all judge the same then I'll go the cheapest route which looks to be Auto City Classics(still waiting on a quote from OEM Glass). If they don't all judge the same then I'll have to start looking at costs again.

For what it's worth I just found out that Corvette Central gets it's windshields from OEM Glass so that is a good option.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the windshields these guys sell?

          Greg,
I recently ordered a windshield for my '66. Based on what I read in researching this, you can't go wrong with Auto City Classics or PS Auto Glass. You'll probably find their prices to be more reasonable than OEM, and there had been some reports of quality issues with OEM glass. I ordered mine from PS in Janesville, WI (www.psautoglass.com, 1-866-565-9557). It's manufactured by Pilkington, using the L-O-F master patterns. I placed the order for a dated piece on a Tuesday, and it arrived in PA on Friday. Great folks to deal with. As I recall, the windshield was $150, the dating was $75 and the shipping was around $65 or $75.
          Good luck!
          Jeff
