That 1992 Corvette was on display at the regional in Rochester as I recall. I believe it was or is white??? JD

I wasn't throwing stones Art. I just wanted to note the controversy on the chance someone reads this and decides to get serious about adding up the production since the 1 millionth.

Here's one set of numbers, out of Vette Vues Oct 1992 issue. I think Jim Prather was present and took pictures, one collage (attached) shows a sign [which I think followed the car down the line at some point] "Job 9614", which I believe means that, according to someone's math, the millionth was '92 VIN # 19614, or 192 cars past the end of production on June 30th.

On 2nd thumbnail, notice what is included, and the milestones. One error that strikes me is the 1965 figures; there were actually two more convertibles produced (15,378) for a total of 23,564, which Chevrolet revised documents show, and this total is recognized by NCRS.

There may be others that stand out. The various milestones are at the bottom.

The VIN of 1M is: 1G1YY33PXN5119134, built July 2, 1992. I have the poster on the wall right next to me!
Does anyone know the VIN of the 250,000? I would like to see where my Nov '69 car falls next to it.

I did B-day book math, turns out to be a 1970, vin# 358. Maybe someone else would like to check my math !! Steve

Well according to the pictures above your math is off a little bit! That's a '69, with lot's of '69 in the parking area behind it. I heard it was built 11/19/69, and my car was built 11/20/69 so just wondering...

Jamie -- according to the "milestone" table in the pic on my post, above, the 250,000 th was built on 19 November 1969.

All this business about what is the REAL millionth is part of the controversy to which Terry M. and Art A. refer.
------------------ OK; a little more, from CORVETTE NEWS, June/July 1977 issue. The 500,000 th was produced on 15 th March 1977 @ 2:01 pm !!. Buyer was Pat Meraw, of Detroit.

The info on the 250,000th differs from date of the table from Vette Vues. CN says it was produced 7th November, 1969, and completed to the order of one George Dyer of Montebello CA.

No VIN numbers given for either of these.

Yep, I was off a bit, with another calculator I came up with vin#34453, a nov. 5, 1969. Would be great is someone else would re-check my math, I guess since I was hi in previous post, thats why I have never had an IRS audit !!! Steve

In checking your build information for the #34453, I noticed a note in my files for November 7, 1969 (a Friday) "250,000 Corvette off the end of the line this day." At this time I have no clue where I got this information. That would put the serial number about some place between #34,775 and #34,950. I have taken some other steps to see if I can get the actual number, but the results, if any, will take several weeks or more.

We're all forgetting about our own NCRS source for total cumulative production up to the 1,000,000th. John Amgwert (RESTORER, Vol 18 #2 (Fall 1991) published OFFICIAL Corvette production totals by year up to the end of 1991 MY. [total cumulative = 980,386]

He then goes on to say "It is anticipated that sometime late in the 1992 model year, the Bowling Green plant will produce the One-Millionth Corvette, which should be job number 19,614"

Look at my previous post with thumbnails; the photo collage from Vette Vues shows a placard with "job 9614". Seems now that Jim Prather's list of yearly production in his VV July '92 issue was identical (except for adding 1992 MY up to June 30) to the Restorer list published 9 months earlier.

Is there an explanation why the "purported" millionth car should not have a VIN with the last 5 digits of ... 19614 ?

P.S. John A. notes that the OFFICIAL 1965 production figures indicate 23.562 were produced (NOT including the 2 more cars produced in August and confirmed by revised Chevrolet Central Office document). So job # 19614 should really be job # 19612 for the millionth.

Caveat: the above is just accounting (new batteries , Loren ) and there may be other reasons that another car was selected and nominated for the millionth milestone.

P.S. Eric -- For 1983 MY, Amgwert's numbers .."include the 43 Pilot and Prototype vehicles with 1983 VIN numbers; hese cars were not sold".
