I added EOS to the new (diesel type CJ-4 Rotella) motor oil after my engine rebuild in 2007. I only drove the car about 200 miles this past summer and have changed the oil again (Fall of 2008). Should I add EOS again before I drive it, and how long (in Miles) should I continue to use this additive? Car has solid tappets (64 F.I.). Thanks.

I use the same GM additive in my 65 fuel car. My motor was also redone in 2007 and my mechanic said to use the Chevron Delos diesel oil plus the EOS. It's use is important during the cam shaft and lifter break-in. His recommendation was to use it every oil change, but it was not a strong recommendation. It's expensive and it's probably overkill, but it is also cheap insurance.

Re: Motor Oil re EOS additive
I'm currently rebuilding my L-72 (solid lifters). I plan to use CJ-4 oil with EOS during break-in. After that, I'm planning to just use CJ-4. Check this out:

Re: Motor Oil re EOS additive
See my comments on the nearby "engine breakin" thread.
Since you changed the oil after too few miles I recommend you use a bottle of EOS with the new oil, and try to put at least 500 miles on it before the next change.
After that, all you need is C-category oil. No supplemental additives are necessary or desireable.
If you have any questions about "what kind of oil to use" read the engine oil article (and Web references) in the Summer 2008 issue of The Corvette Restorer.
