Does anyone know where to get just the battery tray? I want to use my original 'legs' and spot weld them on to a new tray. I saw just the tray offered at one time but I can't remember which parts provider had it.

Why would you want to do that? I replaced mine many years ago and expect I will have to do it again in the not too distant future (I use wet batteries). I had to do a little twisting and turning, but I got it bolted up ok. Can any one tell an original from a repro and how??

I have a repro and compared it to the legs off of my original and they're close but do have a few differences. Does anyone know if the repros judge out okay?
If they do, I'll just bolt the repro on and be done with it.- Top

Depends on the Judge, should look for the proper gusset configuration, many do.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Ron, this is from a 64 SB. Not sure if that's the area under discussion. Check with Mike for comments. Not the best photo, sorry.Attached Files- Top

Re: Just the tray, nothing but the tray....
As for drilling out the spot welds, you can buy a bit made especially for that purpose. You start by drilling a small hole (approx 1/8") in the center of the spot weld with a standard bit. The special spot-weld bit has a center pin that will drop into the hole created by the ~1/8" bit. The rest of the special bit is almost like a small hole saw. If you use it on the side of the piece that will not be reused, you can drill through that disposable part and stop when you get through that first layer. The part to be reused then only has the 1/8" hole in it. One of the tool trucks that frequent auto repair shops will carry them. Maybe auto parts stores too.- Top

Irby the tool Doug is talking about is called a Blair cutting bit. Doug described the way the tool works to the tee. It's not the only way to drill out spot welds but in my opinion it's the best and neatest way.- Top

Re: Just the tray, nothing but the tray....
Here is one that I think falls into the early reproduction category, pics 1 & 2.
Comments anyone, Mike?
Then one of the big box vendors has this called out as a correct 66 427 RH and it is no where near anything.
So yes I am looking to verify 66 427 RH mount.
thanks,- Top
