        I have to look through some boxes in the garage. I bought some VelveTouch for the '57 from J.C. Whitney in '75. Unfortunately they did not have front and back so I have one or the other, 'can't remember which. I forgot I had them until you guys posted.

          This is a set I have for the 60. Are these originally riveted or welded(?) to the shoes?

            Those look like they may have been bonded. I believe that was typical of 61-62 shoes. I believe those shoes would stop you by the time you got to Jerseyville.

              Dave;

              Those look just like the ones I took off my 63 this past summer, with the exception of the color. I did not know that the 60 had the 2-1/2" front shoes. I thought that started later like those from my 63.

              We had several threads about them this past year and I believe it was determined that the things that look like rivets are actually locating pins and/or that they were induction welded onto the shoes. Also that the pads were like in two layers which explained the way they separated. I sure would like to know what happens to the missing material. Mine were separated like that as well, although I did have one floater.

              What gives yours that even redish color? Did they rust tlike that or did you spray them with some Rustoleum paint?

                Decades ago I bought a set of 687 shoes. Some were riveted and some were bonded. These are bonded. You can see the sintered material sticking through the shoe.

                The riveted have smaller holes in the shoe (for the rivets), and none of the sintered material sticks through the shoe. The rivets are visible from the drum side of the shoe, and there are holes all the way through the sintered material.

                  All finned front drums from 56 to 62 were 2-1/2" . The 63 Z06 finned drums may have been 2-3/4". Possibly Franz or others may verify or disagree.

                    Stuart -

                    Over twenty years ago we blasted the old rusty shoes and painted with red primer. I figured it wouldn't hurt them. I wasn't sure what year they were.
                    My guess is that the 61-62's would have been very similar in dimensions to the 63-64 drum brakes.
