    67 427 balancer pulley diameter

Searched the archives and learned 3863108 is the correct 427 balancer pulley. I have a cast iron pulley that does not have those numbers and seems small in diameter. It may be from a later high performance engine. Can someone tell me the correct diameter for the 67 427 balancer pulley?

      HI Charles
If you have 3863108BM then it should be correct for your car. You probably have a cast 660? pulley which is smaller in diameter. Often mistaken for a corvette item.
However I looked in the parts book and 3863108 is for 427 390 hp, W A/C, Not for 3x2
      Thanks, Grant

The GM #3863108 is a cast iron pulley that is 6-3/4" OD. There is another pulley of similar construction and configuration but smaller OD. That one was never used for a Corvette application.

While some parts references may indicate otherwise, the GM #3863108 crank pulley was used for ALL 1967 Corvette big block applications and regardless of other installed options (however, it was not necessarily used for all later Corvette big blocks).

Thanks. The pulley I have is cast iron and 5&7/8"in diameter. The numbers 38996 appear in one section and 60BM? in another. Any idea what it is used on?

I agree 100% with Joe Lucia.
Here's a pic of the cast iron crank pulley removed from my 46,000 mile, original 1967 Corvette, with it's original 427 under the hood (a L68 tri-power). It measures 6 and 3/4 inches across. Two belt grooves.
As you can see, it also has the "BM" broadcast code engraved immediately after the GM part number of 3863108, as mentioned by another poster.
I am certain this pulley is original to my car.
The reason the paint looks "dull", is that the pulley has been bead blasted, and only painted with black etching primer, so far.
            Hope this helps, Ridge.

Thanks for the picture shows me exactly what I need. Any idea what the 5&7/8" I have came off of?

                Sorry, I don't know.
You might try a google search for "Chevrolet crankshaft pulley", and see if you find a similar pulley mentioned in a posting.
                Good luck. Ridge

The part number of your pulley is GM #3899660. This was a SERVICE-only, deep groove, cast iron pulley released about late 1966. It was a "high performance" pulley once available under the auspices of GM Performance Parts. There was no PRODUCTION application that I can find. It was discontinued without supercession in June, 1995

The block it came off of had a number of L-88 parts. I wonder if some of the race teams may have used it because of its diameter or weight?

It's VERY possible it was used for its deep groove configuration and relatively small diameter.

Joe just noticed a 660 pulley advertised on e bay item #260361778925. Was this smaller pulley used on the L-88?

That item number does not show as a pulley. In any event, I can find no information that indicates that this pulley was ever ORIGINALLY used for an L-88 or, for that matter, any other PRODUCTION application.
