    C1 generator condenser

I looked on the archives, could not find anyting on generator condensers. Did they come on '55 generators? If so, where might I find one?

    TIA

The capacitor was part of the radio option... That's where it's called out in the AIM, Delco Remy PN 1911095. You'll also find it referenced in the '53-55 NCRS Judging Guide book.

So, if the car was radio equipped, judges will expect the RF capacitor to be on the generator...

There is one now on eBay

Thanks! I'm bidding on it. If I don't get that one, are there ones from other years / cars that will work? Seems to be a hard part to find.

Most any Vett one will work but 55 was Unique and all by itself , I think I have an extra one I'll look later ,e-mail me.

            Mike,
Check this one from Corvette Central, may be the same

The generator capacitor was an 095 from 53 thru 62. The picture on Roy's post is of an aftermarket(it is too long)

                  Re: C1 generator condenser

I have a line on a few at this point. Does anyone know of aftermarket sources? I don't have my coil shielding, so I was considering a '56 coil capacitor, would that work until I can get proper parts? Also, would a '58- 62 voltage regulator capacitor work on my '55? I assume it will but not be correct. Also, what are specs on the generator and coil capacitors? Maybe I could find one that would function from another model in the mean time...Mike

Frequently, mechanics substituted ordinary ignition points condensors for the factory original '095 radio RF capacitor used on the generator...

Jack, I read that you can substitute ingnition condensers for the capacitors, that they are the same thing. Is this correct? My car is not a numbers matching car, it is a driver, so this would not be an issue with me. I know the capacitor attaches to the armature terminal on the generator, which post on the coil and which on the voltage regulator? How many microfarrads should the condenser be and will it help eliminate the static?

                      Thanks,

                      Mike

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that there are 4 radio capacitors (on my 59 at least). 3 single lead/metal barrel types (like the one in the distributor), .5 micro farad, 200v dc. One on the generator, one on the + side of the coil and one on the bottom connector of the voltage regulator (the capacitor case is screwed onto the vr housing). The 4th one is a double lead .5mf, 200 volt dc wax type barrel cap with one end attaching to the + side of the ammeter (behind the dash cluster) and the other end attaching to a ground.

I think that this is correct.

Stephen, do you know the specs on ignition condensers? Are they the same as the RF you mentioned? I'd use ignition condensers if they'd work...

The capacitance values of the noise suppression capacitors are not at all critical. Ignition condensors ought to work just fine.

Don't know but would guess that they are pretty much the same. By the way, the correct size RF caps show up regularly on ebay for any where from $10 on up. They don't have the "correct" numbers or the "correct" wire connectors but they should work. If you want number correctness be prepared to pay $40 and up. The cap behind the dash cluster on the amp gauge, is on Ebay for, I think, $125.
