    Chrome polishing on emblems

I have some emblems that are still in good shape but the chrome needs to have small (hardly visible) scratches polished out. Anybody got any advice on the best polish and procedure to do this?

    Thanks, Mike

My choice is Wenol and they have three different flavors. Paul

Wenol is good! Be very careful not to use an abrassive polish as the origianl chrome is not that heavy.

Thanks for the advice. Which of the three flavors of Wenol is best for this type of work?

          Re: Chrome polishing on emblems

Over the past 30+ years, I've used Simichrome Polish on everything from chrome trim, bumpers, etc to the plastic rear window on C2 hardtops. (It works as well removing scratches as the "bubble polish" used on helicopter windshields at the 'copter manufacturer were I worked at the time....)

Now you can use Google to find it, but when I started using it in the '70's, it was most easily found at motorcycle shops since it was popular for motorcycle chrome.

Auto Wenol is the (Wenol) polish for chrome. There are no abrassives advertised in Auto Wenol. After polishing using very light contact and a soft cloth wax the part. Wenol has a wax and there are other very good waxes you can use. Don't use other "chrome polishes" as many have abrassives. If the scratches are in the metal and not just very fine surface scratches in the plating you have to strip the plating, remove the scratches and replate.

The scratches are very fine surface scratches which don't affect the appearance much. I don't know how thick the chrome layer is, so I can probably live with them, as is, if there's a chance of removing too much chromium with an abrasive polish. I'll try one of the non-abrasive polishes you've recommended and let you guys know how it worked.

              Thanks, Mike

Mike, The Wenol in the blue tube is the gentlest. The red tube is next and the pink tube is wax. Paul
