    Gm Building Any More Zr1

Is this the last of GM's hot rods, with the closing the High Performance Division ?

My understanding is that Corvette engineering handles ALL Corvette production cars. That team sounds like they are separate from the High Performance Vehicle Team that was just disbanded.

I think we're OK for a little while yet.

They build the ZR1 motors about 1/2 mile from me here in Wixom

I heard (unfortunately not from an authoritative source -- just the Internet) that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant employees went back to work Monday.

Talked to a previous employee yesterday afternoon that lives in BWG that retired from the Corvette plant in 1999 and he said they went back to work on Monday.

This is true ! The Corvette plant is running and dealers are now able to place orders again.

For those who didn't know..... the plant has been closed since right before Christmas. ( Reopened 2-23 ) 2009 should make for a very short production run.

I talked to them on Monday,,, (to plan a trip for three couples later this spring.) Production line people who survived the cuts went back for cross training and learning the new production schedules and processes with the much reduced force. Actual production line doesn't start up until March 9.

Good details Norm. At least the remaining people are back to work -- even if not producing Corvettes yet. Thanks for the update.

I can't see many dealers jumping in to place orders. Corvette sales were down 58% in Jan. and here's what is already sitting on the ground unsold. Over 8500. At the Jan. selling rate, that's over a 9 month supply.

We are placing orders this week. The plant is open and they are filling the line now. Completed units are to come of the week of 3-2 .

Hopefully those are pre-sold orders so they don't have to sit on the lot next to the 36 unsold ones you already have.

What is up with that ?? I'm a good member here who is always glad to help out. I work for the largest new Corvette dealership in Ohio. We don't park our cars on a lot, we have an indoor showroom that holds up to 80 Corvettes.

We did order more cars for stock. We will continue to do so. We always have. 36 new Corvettes isn't that many when spring hits. If you ever get in the area, stop in and let me take you to lunch and show you around. Maybe your attitude towards fellow members and dealers might change.

Might even want to keep May the 9th on your calendar open for our 20th annual Corvette show ! Usually between 500 and 600 Corvettes on hand. We always have plenty of new Corvettes to show off. Look me up !
