    62 Generator

An NCRS member friend has a '62 generator that, when tested on the car, puts out about 18 volts @ 1000 rpm. He has checked and replaced the voltage regulator to no avail.

His battery seems to want to boil a bit...

    Your kind thoughts, please...

It would still seem to be the VR wrong unit or out of adjustment because it's the only part between the generator and battery. Also a poor grounding could do that.

If the Voltage regulator is not grounded the generator doesn't know its there. Good Luck

        Dennis,

Had a 58 doing the same thing. Took it to an OLD generator builder and he said the field coil was grounded to the case. He used a screwdriver and moved the wire away from the case. Worked perfect from that time on.

My black and silver cove 58. You saw it at Joplin.

        Regards,

        JR

Similar mishaps can result from installing a reproduction ID tag using reproduction rivets that are too long... The field windings are simply shellac insulated and wrapped in burlap. You do NOT want something piercing the wrap or letting it deteriorate to the point the field windings rub against the inside of the case!
