    66 firewall grommet

I am ready to install the grommet in the firewall for the A/C wiring, oil line etc. - a four hole grommet. Does it press in from the engine side or from the dash side? The AIM makes it look to me like it comes in from the dash side but that just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Joe,
I installed mine from the engine side. It is no easy drop in but it will go in. I did this a while ago and I think I disconnected the ballast resistor to prevent accidental damage.

      Re: 66 firewall grommet

      Thanks,
That seems to make the most sense to me.
Has anyone put it in from the dash side?
I only want to put it in once.
Did you put the grommet in first and then thread the harness or thread the harness first then put the grommet/harness assembly in as a unit?

If your dash is in place...then

I think from the engine side is easier.

The harnesses go into their proper holes before seating the grommet. The oil line should wait until later.

A dip in hot water will make the grommet more pliable and easier to work with. A popsicle stick will help in pushing the grommet lip thru the hole. Just get one small section into place and work your way around.

          Joe,

Mike's suggestion for hot water is good. I also put a thin layer of grease on the taperd end and into the grove to ease installation.
