Re: C4 Zr-1
Ron,
What area of the country do you live. I took my 93 to a Central Ca. chapter meet a couple of months ago, and the talent was very good. A number of C-4 master judges worked on my car, the deducts were right in line with the 2007 Regional in Leavenworth, Wa. You must have your car test PV'd prior to presenting. I went all the way to Denver in May, 08, and failed. It was my fault for assuming all was well.- Top

You have to go thru PV nowdays before flight judging?? When did that start?- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Make sure you discuss what to do for the PV with the Team Leader when you do your Regional. One example: the hatch struts need to be original for Flight Judging for full credit. They don't have to work perfectly. For the PV, they must work just like the day the car was new. You can substitute new ones for the PV; they don't have to be original.- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Oh ok. Got it. I was gonna say, if you need a PV before Flight , alot of cars are gonna get bounced.
Ive ordered the maunals, etc. Its been like 12 years since ive done any NCRS stuff. Alot will come back quick to me. Some wont.
The car only has 4800 miles on it. Im sure its not gonna get 100%, but its so virgin, it would be hard to screw up too bad. I dont think the bladders work in the lumbar, and I need to replace the short side hood latch cable. What a piece of $&^# that design is. 60K for a car and they put that in for a latch release?? The battery is a replacement, but other than that, shes factory, including the tires. (hard as rocks)
That reminds me, can you get a correct battery nowdays?- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Reference the position of the oil filters on the ZR-1. Does the oil drain into the crankcase after the engine is shut off or is the filter the type that has a valve to prevent this?
What technique do ZR-1 owners use to keep from having a mess to clean up with each filter change?- Top

Make sure you check your back-up lights. Mine used to work, but not at the Regional (a common 6-speed issue). You get bonus points for an NCRS decal, fire extinguisher, and battery switch. A C4 expert at the Michigan Regional suggested using a knife-blade type switch. I found one on-line made by Wirthco.
I haven't seen a correct battery available. Some experienced judges (who bought their C4s new) saved their original batteries and oil filters...- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Ron,
Remember I said I failed my PV at Denver. The problem was both (R/L) lumbar inflation units. The motor has a very thin rubber piece that pumps the air into the lumbar units (3). MidAmerica has this part for little money. Removing and replacing is not difficult. I would purchase the two shop manuals from Chevrolet (1-Mech 2-Elec) The oil filter (PF-970C) is black. The label is grey with black letters, and has no bar code on the label. These are hard to find, but not impossable. I put my filter on, after my car has at least 8 hours of non driving time. This allows all the oil to drain back into the crankcase. Once home I remove the filter for the next judging round. Make sure your windshield wipers are original. the tips should look like the head of an arrow that has a rounded tip. Is your windshield delaminating around the edges. This is common in all ZRs. Take your hit and forget trying to replace it. The cost per judging point is not worth it. If you want some fun reading, find and purchase the book "Heart of the Beast", you will love it. Some great photos. I found mine on amazon.- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
I have a 1990 Red on Red ZR-1. Scored 98.6. Docked for battery, floor mats? and a little oil and grease on engine. This car was well ahead of it's time from a technology prospect. All motor, no supercharger needed to get incredible performance. Jim- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Are there many C4 Zr-1 owners in NCRS? I just bought a 4000 mile one thats a total time warp. Original everything, including the air in the tires.
It was locked away in a garage. (wonder if the tires which still have the nubs on them are any good. they arent cracked)
Going to try and prep it for maybe a judging deal this summer. Just wondered who all out there on this site is into these cars?
Its been like 10 or 12 years since I let my membership lapse, and sold my car) but now I re-upped and plan to get back into it.
PS - Anyone know when the 94-96s will become NCRS eligible?1967 L71 Silver/Black Coupe - Unrestored/Original Paint, Top Flight at 1998 Regional in Ontario, not judged since
1995 Red/Red ZR-1 - Top Flight back in 2010 Michigan Chapter meet- Top

Re: C4 Zr-1
Hi Ron, I own the 90 ZR-1 That was parked next to Bill Clupper's car in Marlborough in 2007 for Crossed Flags judging. There are plenty of people here that know ZR-1s. You should also check out www.zr1.net for Info. Good luck with the car.
