Recognize this pedal?

The gas pedal you see in the first image was removed from my September 1965 production '66 roadster with #3763980 embossed on bottom. At first I thought the pedal to be incorrect (design) till I came across another '66 produced Corvette with same like kind pedal seen in second image . Appears Chevrolet may have been using two different kinds of gas pedals. Any thoughts out there? Thanks in advance.

I had one of these as well in my '63 SWC when I got it and believe these were the replacement pedals sold over the counter by GM. They show up quite frequently on ebay and sold as "NOS" originals, but technically they are NORS - New Old Replacement Stock.

I've never known these to be original equipment on Corvettes.

There were 3 different gas pedals for 1963-67 Corvettes. The original used in PRODUCTION was GM #3830510. This pedal was also available in SERVICE until June, 1971 when it was discontinued and replaced by GM #2388493. The latter was discontinued in March, 1981 and replaced by GM #715390. That pedal was discontinued without supercession in October, 1990. The GM #715390 was originally used for some truck applications. It's possible that the GM #2388493 was originally used for truck applications, too, but I can't confirm that.

So, I expect that you have either the 2388493 or the 715390. By the way, I don't know what the 3763980 refers to. I would guess that it's some component of the gas pedal. There never was any gas pedal that I can find of that part number which dates back to about 1959 or 1960.

I think the primary difference between the replacement pedals and the originals is the pattern of the anti-skid surface of the pedal. However, the thing that puzzles me is that I've seen quite a few mid-years with the pedals that you have pictured and I can't figure out why so many mid-years would have needed the pedal to be replaced, especially early-on.

Less than a year ago I saw a "NOS" pedal for our midyears on ebay. The picture was quite fuzzy so I emailed the seller and asked him if the rubber had squares or rectangular patterns on it. He wrote back that it did.
I remember ordering a new pedal for my 63 many years ago from Chevy and when it came in I told the parts manager that it wasn't even close.
Careful buying some of the repros as they don't flex very well and could easily give you idle problems. You have to massage them a tad to loosen them up. Now maybe today someone sells one that is correct. I don't know. JD

I bought three repros from three different vendors, and none of them had any "hinge" action (all went back); Ernie sent me one that "hinged" exactly like the original, and differs only by the top end of the outer grooves being at an angle instead of square.

Over the counter replacement uh . Makes one wonder how rough a person has to be in order for a gas pedal would need replacing. Strange.....strange . How about this avenue of thought....on any given day during production the line ran out of a particular part....for us "part considered to be correct". Line didn't stop and alternate supplier (part) was used until line received their first line suppliers part.

I recently purchased a reproduction pedal from LIC. They offer a replacement cheap and a very good reproduction for $30. I am very pleased with it as It passed judging at the Bend Regional. This will only hold true until some self appointed expert gets out the measuring calipers to prove it as a service replacement and declare all to give big point losses. Then most everyone will follow (lemmings) and do the same. However then everyone will be an expert at seeing the difference without a measurement.

here is the pedal that was on my 63 when I purchased it 6 years ago.
Replacement IMO.
The backside is the give away - it has 2 bolts coming out which were
likely for a universal OTC fit.

Mine has the same two bolts coming from the back side as well.
