    283 Engine break-in

I had the engine in my '58 rebuilt several years ago (about 15). This is a 270 solid lifter engine. I didn't drive it much to really break it in, probably less than 20 miles. Now I have finished the restoration and have started driving it but I noticed it is using some oil, about a quart in the last 300 miles. Is this normal during break-in. I am using 30 wt. oil and have been trying to do highway driving. Any special oil I should be using Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Chuck

your either leaking it or burning it. breaking in or other wise there's nowhere else for the oil to go. you may have a valve seal problem if the rebuild was 15 yrs ago with very little oil movement.
