    Re: 1964 exhaust question

    OK, thanks John.
Well the only other information I can add is that the muffler was purchased in 1971 from Chev Dealer and cost an outrageous price of $50.35 each.
Have shown a shot of inside muffler and pn on outside. Will need to drop a light source inside the pipe to get a good shot of the entire length of the pipe inside mufller. Note the perforated pipe on right ends and then becomes a solid pipe till the inlet, 2 1/2, end.

      Alan -

That muffler was made on 1st shift on the 89th day of 1970, by Arvin.

Now for the rest of the story.
The 2" exhaust runs straight back, no restrictions, towards the muffler end but is held short by 3.5" at which point that area is open to the inside of the muffler. The 2.5" inlet pipe comes into the muffler for a distance (unknown inches). Now the treatment of the 2.5" pipe relative to a baffle or other treatment could not be determined (can not see).

When attempting to drop a light down the pipe the length of the wire turned out to be longer than the pipe but I was still unable to see any light through the 2" outlet (was still in the 2.5" pipe). Once the angle was determined of the straight edge used to measure the distance of the 2" outlet it became obvious that I was measuring the distance to the muffler end and not to the 2.5" inlet which turned out to be about 22"
When I ran the light down the 2" outlet it was obvious that the pipe stopped short of the end, length was 18.5". One can then see the 2.5" pipe entering on the side which continues for some distance (unknown length), but would assume Dan's description is correct. These little questions seem to turn into a major exercise - nothing is simple with these cars.

          Alan -

Waldron's Antique Exhaust has precisely duplicated the original N-11 mufflers, and produces them under GM license for Corvette Central Exhaust, who adds the intermediate exhaust pipes and sells the systems. The link below has Joe Tonietto, president/owner of Waldron's, describing how they researched/duplicated the original design.

Very nice John. As usual, your research has paid off. Now, can I buy a set and for how much ? Are they in stock??
