The heritage of these exceptional cars is what we have going forward and the experiences we have with them should be enduring....but we may be too busy to look back and appreciate that. Time will tell, won't it.

I agree that these stories are enjoyable to read. These memories of the early days are what make Corvettes still exciting for me. I really don't care if the large font on the "R" in late series bolts for the 56 powerglide with white sidewalls was different than the ones with black sidewalls. Too much OCD for me.

Bill, great story and I can relate. I was stationed at Norton Air force Base in San Bernardino in the early '70s. Made a drive up to Big Bear Lake in my '71 Corvette on a beautiful clear day and spent the day there. On the way home we hit the edge of the moutains and ran into one of those fog banks. Scared the you know what out of me and my girl friend. We wound our way down Highway 18 with huge boulders on one side and a straight drop down into some valley on the other. My girlfriend hung her head out the window watching for rocks and the white line on the edge of the road. We finally broke out of the fog when we got down around 2,500 feet. A very memorable night. I still have the memories, the car and the girl!

I've driven in really bad fog going to the skiing hills. Scary stuff !! I even had a mate on the hood telling us which way to go at one stage. Thick fog is dangerous.
