    C3 #4 body mount

I need to replace the 2 rear sheet metal body mounts (the ones that are rivited to the body) due to rust. When I removed them from the body there appears to be something like a filler or adhesive in the pocket of the old mount. I will admit it may be compressed and petrified rust but it appears solid. I put a hand drill to it to see if it flaked off but it seems to be like ceramic.

Any idea what I should use as a filler/adhesive before I re-rivit the new mounts on? I could imagine it could be a source of squeeks.

    TIA

    Hi Pete,
I don't know quite where you see this 'material'... is it IN the fiberglass pocket so that it's INSIDE the car, or is it in the pocket that the shape of the metal bracket forms so it's in the wheel well?

      Pete,

all cars are like this. What you are seeing is excess glue that seeped/squished out from the bonding of the splash shield to rear tub that was still setting up when they riveted the body mount bracket in place. You can remove as much as you need to reinstall the new mount.

Hi, Like I said, I'm not quite sure if there was anything there. The metal pocket that came off the car from below...so it is outside and underneath the car is where the "substance" was. It could be dust, rust & grime who knows. Just wanted to be sure.
