    Corvette Restoration Guide 1963-1967

Those of you who own this book...what do you think of it? To me, none of the books cover enough information to be completely helpful, there's just too much info needed to properly restore any of our cars. This book along with Nolan's, the judging guide, AIM (and quite a few others) gets you about half the way there.
Question for those that have this book, on page 128 it states "This particular car is not properly restored". What exactly is wrong with that picture. I believe it looks fine and they may need to change their wording on the next revision.

I think you may wish to read the cation again. On page 128 it says in regard to the above photos "The upper radiator hose clamp on this car is incorrect."

I believe Noland is correct in his observation.

There must already be a revision already because our two books don't jive. On my page 128 I have a picture of the rear of a '63 rolling frame mostly painted black. It's the first page of Chapter 11 - The Rear Axle. My The appendix does not show a revsion only Richard F. Newton, 1998.

You need to gather information from many sources. There is no "one book". There never will be, you couldn't lift it !

Books written years ago may no longer be accurate as we learn new facts and study new examples of original cars. Restoration techniques also change.

Use your books as a guide and spend as much time as you can with real cars to further your Corvette "education".

          Irby,

I think that Daniel was referring to the Noland Adams book, while you are referring to the Richard Newton book. That's why your two books don't "jive."

Both books have errors in them.

You have to remember Noland wrote these books in 1981 and 1986. A lot of water has gone over the dam since then. They both are the most comprehensive that explains what is unique to each model. I do not believe Noland wrote them to be used as a perfect tool for a body off restoration. Back in the day we woul buy a 65 fuelie that had a 350 engine, shag carpet and tuck and roll seat covers. There was no AL KNOCK interiors.......and nothing more that a posible dealer brochure you might find at a swap meet. BLOOMINGTON GOLD started in 1978 judging cars. NCRS in 1974 at a Holiday Inn in Indiana.

We were all green kids just trying to find out what was correct, and Noland went to the factory and did an excellent job discovering what you see.

NO ONE ELSE HAS EVEN TRIED TO WRITE A NEW BOOK.

Good reply James. I agree with everything other than the meet at the Holiday Inn in Indiana..................... It was in Wapakoneta, Ohio I believe. Right down the road from where I live !

You are correct Tom. We left coast guys only know it was a long way from here.

We all really had fun in those days HELPING new friends enjoy their car and discover what they really had. The hobby is still good today, but way to costly. And I think way to technical.

Have you ever gone to a HUDSON Convention? Everyone there marvels at the quality of restoration and no one talks down to an owner with comments like "To bad he screwed up the carburator system"

I have never heard a person at Pebble Beach say "That Dusenburg is painted the wrong color"

                  Re: Corvette Restoration Guide 1963-1967

Nolan's books have stood the test of time. Valuable information to the novice and seasoned restorer alike.

The pictures of the cars on the assembly line are some of the most important historical information ever recorded.

The pictures taken from underneath the cars as they were assembled is the most valuable information available for restoration of chassis.

Nobody will ever have access to the information Nolan has recorded in those two volumes. General Motors will never again give anyone access to the historical information thru pictures Nolan had access to before he documented Corvettes in these books.

The errors in the books are from many trips to swap meets and photos of very important details documented on film. While documenting a specific detail some pictures document errors on other parts of the Corvette.

                    Irby;
Both of Nolands books, "The Complete Corvette Restoration and Technical Guide Volume 1 (1953 through 1962) and Volume 2 (1963 through 1967) have "revised updated editions".
That might be where you are seeing a discreptancy.

                      Hey Guys,
The guide that I'm talking about is the one written by Richard Newton. I was just wanting y'all s opinion of it and of the picture of the '63 chassis on page 128. I thank goodness for all the guides we have at our disposal. It would be hell trying to restore these cars without any of them.
                      Aloha.
