GM Part Number for a C2 Accelerator Pedal ???

Looking for Joe Lucia or anyone else that can tell me what the correct GM part number is for a 1963 through 1967 Corvette accelerator pedal.

    Thanks,

    James,

The part number for the original 63-67 accl pedal was 3830510. Discontinued a looooong time ago and serviced with a pedal from a pick up truck that looks much different.

James, Last week there was a post on here about the midyear accelerator pedal which you might find interesting. JD

Believe that was my post "Recognize this pedal". My current '66 project came with a gas pedal uncharacteristic of what we call "correct". Have seen this style pedal in other mid year Corvettes. 1st image is mine, second taken from another '66 Corvette. You can see from second image pedal(s) have been in this vehicle for quite sometime. Has been indicated by others pedal was a dealer replacement. Could Chevrolet have been using two different pedals?

Re: GM Part Number for a C2 Accelerator Pedal ???

          Good Morning, Michael
The pedals you have posted were never used in Mid-Year production.
Only the traditional rib design, incidentally, with all square recess ends.
I believe the confusion may stem from Joe's comments in your earlier string.
If I recall he mentioned three PN's running through and after M-Y production.
Now the confusing part, the "changes" may have been interpreted by some as a "tread" design change, which may have been the case with the later S/R's.
However, I believe the major change that created the new PN's during M-Y production was the accelerator rod contact piece "on the back" being changed from metal to plastic to resolve "squeeking" complaints.
Hopefully, the others can confirm, either way.
          HaND

            James,

GM #2388493 gas pedal is a 1971 replacement for the original discontinued GM #2830510. I bought one for my 1965 and to me it looks just like the original 2830510 gas pedal.

I thought the 2388493 was different than the original 3830510? I know the correct vertical groove 510 pedal was replaced with the square groove truck pedal, as shown in Michael Gill's pic above, some time in the 70's.

I seriously doubt the truck pedal ever made it into 63-67 Corvette production.

The 3830510 was the part number used for all 63-67. Vertical grooves only.

                Michael,

I'm not an expert on accelerator pedals, but the 2388493 that I bought has thin vertical grooves running lenghtwise with all ends squared off. The two outer grooves are about 1/8" shorter than the inner grooves.

There were a total of THREE pedals used over the years for 63-67 Corvettes. All original pedals were GM #3830510. This pedal was discontinued from SERVICE in June, 1971 and replaced by the GM #2388493. The latter pedal was discontinued from SERVICE in March, 1981 and replaced by GM #715390 which was then discontinued without supercession in 1990.

GM #2388493 was first used for some 1956 series 6 and larger truck applications and was used for such trucks through 1970. I do not know its pad configuration but if you have one and it's configured as you describe, then we know what its configuration is. By the way, the part number should appear somewhere on this part.

I can't find a specific original application for the GM #715390. However, I do know that it existed prior to the time it superceded the 2388493, and I know that it had some truck applications. I don't know what the pad configuration of this piece is but it may be the one seen in the various photos posted in this thread.

                    Thanks Joe,

That sounds right. I KNOW I ordered what I assumed was the correct pedal in the early 70's but the weird truck pedal was what came from the warehouse. I don't know what the part number was. If the 510 was discontinued in 1971, then the pedal I received had to be the 2388493 truck pedal.
I don't think the correct pedal was ever available again after the 510 was discontinued.

                      Joe,

I bought my 2388493 pedal from Norm Werner's Corvette Parts in Port Orange, Florida. He advertizes them as NOS and it sure does look like the real thing. I can't find any part number, only "CAA 78" molded on the back side.

If there's otherwise no part number embossed anywhere on the part, was there a part number tag on it when you bought it?

                          Joe,

No official GM tag present; only what it appears to be a vendor generated ID tag.
