    69 Broken Speedometer Cable

I have disconnected the cable from the speedometer and 4 speed transmission. The cable was broken about 1-1/2 inches out from the tranny. My plan was to replace just the cable. The chassis manual says to pull the cable from the speedometer end. I have been tugging with needle nose pliers with no success. Old threads discuss replacing the full cable, hard to find correct ones. But I also read it is hard to know the exact length of just the cable.

Anyone have success/tricks with pulling just the cable from the speedometer end? Best to just order the entire cable? If so, any suggestions on where to get a correct one? Thanks

I replaced the entire unit on my 69, the cable and the shell. The shell may be damaged on the inside. To get a smooth read on the speedometer i would buy the entire unit. I would purchase from Paragon or any of the reputable suppliers. Good luck

I don't know 69's that well, but I know that the 61-62 reproduction housing is "close but no cigar". I'd guess that would be the case in 68 also--I'm always an advocate for using what you have if you can.
What's the worst you can do trying to get the old cable out? Ruin the housing? Then replace it. Getting the length right isn't all that tough. YOu just feed it in from the speedo side, make sure it's seated in the plastic gear in the tranny, then cut to fit and attach the end at the speedo end. I've figured out how to do that by myself, and I'm just a preacher!
