    63 Jute Padding

I am going to ask the question again after reading this below.

Does anyone know for sure on the padding.

I found in the Technical Guide by Adams on page 34 "each piece was installed separately over jute padding."

I thought that I read in another book just carpet with gray pad on the back?

Hi, when I took the original carpet out of my 63 Coupe it only had a grey foam on the back of the carpet, no padding whatsoever, my 64' Coupes have all had a press moulded 'tar paper' with jute type material glued under it. 64 verts just had the grey foam on the back of the carpet.

So what would you replace the grey foam backing with?

Doesn't it come attached to the carpet.

That's what I was told by Al Knoch. It comes attached to the carpet by a spray adhesive. So, if that is the case then what do you do when you have to replace the underlayment?

It is a very thin layer of gray foam that is attached to the carpeting. This is glued directly to the floor. Therefore if you need to replace underlayment you will replace the carpeting also. Many people have put down the jute underlayment for comfort and noise first. If the car is going to be judged I would not put down the jute underlayment. If daily driver do it for sound and comfort.
