1964 FI Intake/Head Surface Painted Silver?

    Fuel Injected 327/375.

FI Unit, Drive Cable, Bolts, Gaskets & Seals

    Decals, stickers & gaskets

    Non FI cars:

    THEN:

    FI Cars:

So which is it for the intake/head surface & intake gaskets/end seals for a 1964 FI 375 HP 327?

The JG says one thing and the judges say another. If the JG is correct, then the judge was wrong or vice versa?

The car was deducted for no overspray on the head/intake surface (which according to the above, no overspray is correct for FI cars) (the head/intake surface is painted orange, gaskets where unpainted on this car), and was also deducted for no overspray on the valve cover gaskets (orange or silver?)

    exact

Does anyone have pictures of the intake/head area and the end seals that are correct?

Thank you very much for this one!

    Carr,

Take a peek at the thread "Need help with Silver Paint on '63 L84... " just below yours (well, it is right now anyway). I think it has the answers you want.

If you're bored you can see how I interpreted this with regard to a 66 a few years ago. It's the same idea.

      Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your quick reply but your car is not an FI car, and according to the JG the way yours is done (very nicely BTW) is correct for NON FI cars.

THE JG says FI is not painted, but the judge deducted for no overspray.

So my question is what is right for FI?

It appears by reading the JG that the judge may have misjudged it as being the same an a NON FI car; OR the JG is wrong.

      Thanks!

Again, see the other thread where Michael Hanson posts a pic of an FI block with silver paint.

          Carr,

The info that Patrick gave is correct for all 63-65 small block engines with aluminum intake manifolds/adapters. There's a great pic of a very low mileage unrestored FI engine in that thread with the FI unit and adapter removed.
There is a VERY obvious coating (and some light rust) of dull aluminum paint on the cyl head intake gasket surface.

I think the incorrect info in the JG is simply an editing error.

Re: 1964 FI Intake/Head Surface Painted Silver?

The only pictures I could find where of a 2-4 car. It was done very nicely, but doesn't answer my questions about FI cars, and the process.

There are so many subtle differences on an FI car on how to apply the paint if it is supposed to be silver:

            Are the plenum runners painted?

Was the plenum on when it was painted, or just the base plate? Were the plenum gaskets painted?

My problem is that all the evidence I have is for aluminum intake/carburetor cars, and then of course the JG is throwing the biggest wrench into what is right for an FI.

I have emailed the 63-63 judge and the judging chairman but haven't gotten a response yet. Maybe when Carlton replies we'll have the definitive answer and I'll post too.

            Please keep the answers coming!

            Thanks.

Carr, See Nov 14, 2004 post for Michael Hanson's answer to your question. I hope I have the right day in Nov of 04. If not I am close. John D.
