To remove the exhaust mainfold AIR trees , would you do it when the engine is cold or let it warm up then remove them?

HOT. And make absolutely certain that you use a TUBING WRENCH on the tubing nuts. Even with all this they may not budge, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Jack,
Follow Joe's suggestion first. When you have the wrench on the nuts, observe the tubes going into the nuts. Sometimes they will twist as they may be seized. If that happens let the engine cool and soak them overnight with your favorite penetrating oil.
If you still have problems, you may have to remove the exhaust manifolds and soak them from behind.
If that doesn't work you will have to apply a lot of heat. Let's hope we don't go there.
Good luck, it's a can of worms.

I had to remove the same things a while ago and did not want break anything.I was told by a friend to try flowing hot candle wax into the heated threads. I did it to all but one, to see if it really worked. Had trouble with the one I did not try the wax on. Was told that the wax lubes the threads to ease removal. Good luck.- Top

When you put the trees back in the manifolds, use anti-seize on the tubes where they pass through the nuts and on the tube nut threads; next time you won't have to fight with them or risk damaging them.- Top
