i just finished installing an original BB fan shroud in my 66. when i went to close the petcock i discovered that there was no clearance to turn the valve. the "ears" hit the shroud and the bottom mount. what type of drain or petcock was used on this aplication?

Bill,
Brass plugs were also used on big blocks - probably because of the interference. One of my 67's has the plug.- Top

I agree with the others; an NPT thread brass plug was used. Actually, I think a brass plug is a better way to go than a petcock, anyway. Petcocks often leak a little. They often stick and can be very difficult to open. They're almost always a bear to get at, too. When one thinks about it, one removes a plug every time one changes the oil which is a LOT more often than one drains the coolant. So, why should it be any different to drain the coolant as it is to drain the oil?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
