    Re: Finally found it!

    Stu,
I don't think it's a "1" because the writer's first digit curled to the right at the top and his last digit curled to the left. I would think they would be similar if they were both 1's. No expert for sure.

      Re: Finally found it!

      Thanks all for the responses.

There's a great article in Corvette Enthusiast within the last couple of months from John Hinckley (I believe) on ECL codes and the 500 cars at a time production batches and the reason behind it.

Also, over the past 5 or 6 years as I've read (with envy) on this board and observed posted photo's of these "job numbers" and I've seen many AO Smith cars with the job number written in black magic marker. I know that that white and yellow grease pencil are very common/the norm too. Am I mistaken or is that pretty much the case?

BTW - SCC/NCRS meet tomorrow in Irvine! Can't wait.

For C3s the body number is on the passenger toe board (engine side). You may have to remove the heat shield to see it.

On the rear bulkhead, in front of the gas tank -- you will have to remove the gas tank to see it.

If you have a coupe the number is on the roof panels -- you will have to remove the interior trim to see them. And don't be alarmed if the numbers on the roof panels are different than the other numbers. I think they mixed and matched roof panels after paint for the best fit -- thus the roof panel numbers get mixed up.

My early 63 coupe has a green 6 on the lower right firewall.
