    1967 parts help

Does anyone know where I can get the correct hardtop plugs? (they go in hole where to hard top mounts on the top of the rear deck when the hard top is not in use) Also where I can get the two nuts that mount the pedal assembly to the firewall? These are not the studs that the master cylinder mounts on but the two studs right above them.

    Thanks

I have always had good luck with Long Island Corvettes . I bought the hardtop bolt set from them last year. 1 800 466 6367

Corvette Central has the HT plugs in their catalog.

Jeremy, I will have to look when I get to the shop but I bought a set a couple years ago from one of the vendors (not sure if they are correct for judging or not). But if you are planning on judging the car if you have or can look at the "Fact Book of the 1963-1967 Stinrgray" by M.F. Dobbins on page 362 there is a picture of the hardtop rear deck carriage bolts with the original and GM replacement. Shooter

          Hi Jeremy,
to clarify, the vacant bezels did not have plugs. The hardtop bolts with rubber gaskets were removed from the rear of the hardtop and bolted into the "Holes"

            Jeremy -

The snap-in stainless plugs the vendors sell are "pretty", but not correct - GM never used them.

As Mike noted, you use the hardtop bolts, and add the two rubber sealing washers between the bottom of the bolt heads and the bezels. Those washers are item #23 in section C07, sheet A6 in the Assembly Manual, which are shown in the Miscellaneous Shipping List in UPC 0; those two washers were placed in the cloth bag with the hardtop wrench in the glove box when the car left St. Louis with the hardtop installed. The instructions for installing them after removing the hardtop are in the owner's manual, under "Hard Top", on page 29.

If the car is presented for judging with the hardtop in place, the judges will expect to find those two rubber washers in the cloth bag with the wrench in the glove box.

I know what the literature says, but I still find it hard to believe that anyone would use those bolts. First of all they were not finished well. Mine have grinding marks on them. Secondly, they are retained in the slots on the hard top with dum-dum. Nice and messy. I don't think that many would have been used in that application. The side bolt is a more likely candidate.
