69 Coupe Rear Window Weatherstrip Install

Could someone who has succesfully installed the rear window gasket in their coupe, please tell me how it is done? I cannot get the top curved part to stay put. It falls down, and I get weathersrip adhesive on my new carpet and it makes a mess and I get mad. If I manage to get the window latched before it falls down, it does not sit correctly in the channel. Then I have to unlatch the window to adjust it, and it usually falls down again..... making me even madder. Good thing I repented of throwing tools years ago! Any sage advice will be very appreciated. Mark

Have you tried holding it in place with a piece of masking tape until the adhesive sets?

Mark some times it just following the directions on the adhesive most say to apply the adhesive to both parts to be attached let them air dry till just tacky then attach them together. If the adhesive is still wet when you are starting the attachment that may be part of your problem. Jack suggestion is also correct. Paul 18046

        Paul,
That might be the problem. I use tape of course, but there is so much contour to the gasket it would not hold it. I will reclean both surfaces, and try to get better adhesion. Thanks, Mark

          Mark,
You might try to soften the seal with some heat first if the curves are giving you trouble. Then as Paul said, and assuming you are using the 3M adhesive, lightly coat both surfaces and WAIT. Allow the adhesive to become tacky and no longer transferrable to your finger. At this point, you want to be in position to correctly place the seal as it will not be easy to re-position once contact is made. Good luck, Mike

            Hi Mark,
You must not be the first person to have these problems.
By 71 (maybe before) the weatherstrip had an additional rubber 'skirt' molded into each upper corner for 3 screws that hold the strip in place. It doesn't make the installation easy but it helps.
You've gotten all the advice I would have tried to offer.
            Regards,
            Alan
