69 shoulder harness with chrome C shaped guide

    Hi guys

ive seen in the past a few 69 vette coupe equiped with the shoulder harness with this chrome C shaped guide right next to the head restraint

now my question is ... why does both ''guide'' are sometime located on the right side of the head restraint ???

    please look at picture

ive seen cars with this guide located on the left side of the passenger seat and on the right side of the driver seat also

    thanks

My unrestored interior has the guides on the outer sides. In your picture the passenger guide looks be useless. Is that a restoration error?

I agree with Jeff, they should be located on the outer sides. On my '69 there is a depression in the headrest where these recess. You may want to check to see if those depressions are present.

that would be logical ...outer sides

but the picture ive posted was found somewhere online
        (cant recal where)

but my 69 vette is also the same as the picture
when i bought my 69 vette 4-5 years ago before it was fully restored .. i notice that, what i thought was a mistake, ...but it seems not

its not the first time ..i see 69 vette with the same error

is it possible when the car was assembled in 69 ... they used 2 driver seats instead of using 1 driver and 1 passenger seat ????

        Thanks

I highly doubt it. What I've seen more frequently is passenger and driver seats are reversed; whether it's because the driver's seat is worn or if the carpet had been replaced and the seats were installed wrong.
There's no way that sholder harness belt will do any good for the passenger once it's clipped to the lap belt.

I don't believe there is left and right for these seats. (I am sure Joe can tell us.) The back release latches and bottom releases are on same side. This makes the back right one difficult to reach from outside the car.

We changed the ones in a 1974 because the driver's was more worn. Of course 1970-73s with shoulder harness can be switched only by changing the bezel that the harness passes through.

It sounds like someone has replaced at least one of your seats with one that had the harness installed forthe left side. It should be an easy fix in a 1969.

                JF,

When you work on correcting the should belt guide, can you let me know the types and length of screws that attach the guide to the seat? I have a '69 with the guides not attached and no screws and want to find out what screws to buy to install my guides.

                Thanks,

                Don
