    T-10 advice

I am about to replace my transmission with a T-10 that hasn't been in a car in over 20 years. It was shifting smoothely and working great when it was stored.

The fluid was left in, and it has never leaked.

Looking for tips on what to do before it sees the engine.

    Thanks.

I don't think you need to do anything. However, if it was me and considering the history of the transmission, I think I'd drain the lubricant out and replace with fresh. Likely not necessary, but the lubricant is cheap.

Joe, If there is a transmission man in your area, you may want to consider taking the side cover off and having someone look at the shifting forks and gear teeth for a opinion.

The work involved with installing and removing if there are any issues is something to consider.

I just rebuilt a T-10 for my 61 and the O-rings for the shifting levers-forks were brittle. I would replace the rear yoke seal, O-rings for the shifting forks and speedodmeter gear.

        Good luck!

Replace the seals and check the forks....much easier to do on the bench than having leaks after a few miles....

If you are going to take the T10 apart, consider replacing sliders with torque lock sliders. Makes the transmission much better, ends the typical T10 problem of jumping out of gear. The torque lock sliders are not expensive and easier to put in when the tranny is already out.

In addition, I would treat the trans like it is fresh. What I do with a fresh trans, is run it up and down through the gears for about 15 minutes with the car in the air. It allows lubricant to work into every portion of the trans without a load on it. Hope this helps

Where would one purchase the 'torque lock sliders'?
