    C2 Engine Bay Pic Request

I'm hoping someone out there can help. I'm having a difficult time trying to discern how a proper 1965 327/350 non-air engine bay should appear. Can anyone with a correct 1965 327/350 setup post pictures of their bay here? Ideally, the photos would show the engine from both the left and right-hand sides, the front, and if it's not too big of an ask... one with the air cleaner removed to get a good view of the carb setup.

If anyone knows of a set of existing images already on the forum that I missed please post the link. Unfortunately, my car lacks it's original VIN tag and the numbers were ground off elsewhere making my restoration task more of an ordeal as every time I go to order a part they want to know the VIN to make sure they're sending the correct part and every time I have to explain that she no longer has that very valuable piece of identification. Unlike the guy in the current Corvette Restorer, a previous owner of this Ray didn't try to have the original VIN reapplied...

Thanks in advance, you all really make restoring a Vette a less daunting and scary task.

    Here's the only one I have of a non-A/C '65 L-79.

Hi Greg! The VIN # should appear on your title.

        Greg,

These are photos of a properly restored 1965 Corvette with L76 and no C60, which will appear exactly the same from the exterior, as a Corvette equipped with L79 without C60.

        Two caveats:
The third photo shows the 2818 Holley in bronze colored paint, prior to its proper coloring done by a very Lucky fella. All aspects of the Holley are correct, except the color.
The factory exhaust manifolds were more-or-less completely covered with engine-orange paint prior to delivery.......mine were not.

Hey Joe... engine looks good!! You gunna toss that funky white stripe vacuum advance hose and add a little more paint to the bypass hose?
Need to paint the alternator stator visible ribs black too.

            Ha, ha, ha, burppp, pppphhhhhhhhaaaaaarrt!

The funky white stripe is (right or wrong) specified in the TIM/JG 1965, turd and 4th ed.

You don't like my bypass hose? Whuts wrong with my stinking bypass hose?

The jury's still out on the stator/spacer colors! Anyways.................I like caramel, especially with ice cream. Anyways, again (wright or wronng) the TIM/JG states that the windings/spacer plate are CARMEL in color (which darkens with age....possibly turning black?????? in due time). I guess that the "big guy" in alternators and electrical stuff, who restored mine, wuz outta black paint during that time period.

Doesn't matter.......the whole shootin' match is being replaced with a tunnel ram intake topped by dual Dominators.
If I put more shims under the body mounts, it will still fit under the smallblock hood..........super sleeper.

Ok, roll the vac adv hose over to hide the white stripe after the car is judged. Or better yet, just leave the stripe on the bottom. It doesn't belong there.

The bypass hose on 63-67 small blocks was not cupped or shielded, at all, during engine paint. Most were almost completely covered.

I think the verdict IS in on the stator color. No 63-67 stator was originally anything other than semi gloss black. See long previous discussion on this topic right here at this discussion board. Reruns are scheduled once a month.

Mine was one of the ones that was not completely covered with paint. Car was built on a Monday morning, and the guy with the spray gun had a bad hangover. That item (amount of paint coverage on the hose) will not earn a "ding" during judging..........as long as the intent (paint overspray) is evident.......same goes for the exhaust manifolds.

I remember following the thread on the stator/spacer color, some months ago. There was a point at which the color (may have) changed, I think. Seem to remember the earlier years ('63-'64) may have been black, and later caramel. No matter, because in order to have your car pass judging, the "Bible" overrides reality.

Sort of like TRU TV, not reality........actuality.

Actualy, the discussion pretty much confirmed that all 63-67 stators were black. No one was able to produce an original/unrestored stator that was anything other than black.
I think most judges now accept this also. The judge has the last word.

Without complicating things too much for Greg G...................the photos show a car that was restored "by the book".

If the "book" is wrong, then get it changed, just like you're very slowly trying to do with the 1963 "book".

Do you know that my car has the frame stencil on the LEFT side? After reviewing the photos I sent to Roy, the "book" was changed to accept the fact that some cars might have the frame stencil on the left side.

Is your car a "Radio Delete" like the pics with absence of shielding?

                        Not radio delete.
You didn't notice the noise suppression cap attached to the coil.

                        Not exactly "as delivered" either.

How come nobody commented on the lack of bonnet, masking paper wrapped around the hood support prop, the battery trickle charger wire, and the blanket covering the left fender. Not to mention the ............

Now, you smart alecks........tell me whether my Corvette sports a Smith or St. Louis body.

I'd say a Smith body based on the trace of yellow/green primer seen on the inside of the top radiator support?

I have a 90% unrestored '65 L79 with A/C and under the fan shroud support bracket shows the yellow/green primer. See picture attached.

Very nice looking engine compartment BTW.

Sure, Joe, however, my point was to answer Greg's question as accurately as possible regarding an original engine bay, by pointing out that the sheilding was absent, thus, not being an accurate representation of Typical Factory Production configuration that he should rely upon as a basis for originality.

That's a bit confusing. Why would the radiator upper bracket be in place when engine compartment blackout was done? The radiator/fan shroud would have been installed long after blackout.

Or, was the entire front side of the core support originally zinc chrom and someone detailed/painted part of the front of it black years ago?
