C2 Coast to Coast Road Trip Tires

I am planning a coast to coast trip in my 67' BB , I will not use the current Coker repop's or the original bias tires, looking for recommendations for the best possible driving experience.

    Regards,

    Bill

Bill, my opinion 215x75x15 radial. I use uniroyal Tiger Paw. Choice of course is yours. Enjoy the ride, stay safe. Bill

Re: C2 Coast to Coast Road Trip Tires

You'll see lots of posts recommending the Pirelli P4000 Supertouring. The 215/70 R15 size fits really well. I have over 6000 miles on them on my 66 since installing them a year ago, including a trip on Route 66 from Chicago to LA. Everything about them, handling, comfort, traction and ride is just excellent. They won't get you any judging points but they will make your car drive better than you ever imagined.

Check out the archives for some more info or send me a PM if you have any questions.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mike. What are you mounting the new tires on?

BTW: Is your Corvette a coupe or 'vert? Does it have A/C? Does it have sidepipes?

The car is a 435 convertible, side pipes with no air.:

          Thanks, Bill

You are a real man!!!! I am proud of you.... may I suggest some form of ear protection????

Here's what my SB roadster w/o side pipes looks like with the Pirelli's.

Re: C2 Coast to Coast Road Trip Tires

Someone told me this week that there is a set of barely used (1000 miles) 215/70ZR-15 Pirelli P4000 Super Touring tires on Craig's List.

They came off a Jag sedan that a guy put snow tires on, but he sold the car with the snows and still has the P4000s. There are few applications for this tire. They were designed for Jag sedans. About the only other applications are vintage, and they are the absolute best 15" tire you can install on a vintage Corvette. Nothing else even comes close if you are looking for maximum all-weather safety and performance.

Avon also makes a DOT legal racing tire in this size, but the soft compound will probably limit mileage to about 10K miles of normal driving, and they are probably not very good in the rain, especially when down to half tread depth or lower.

With some alignment tuning these tires will give a base suspension vintage Corvette about 1g cornering adhesion.

              Duke

                Thanks All:

I also did some archive research on alternate tire size of 215/65 15 and the spec' on the Dia. is .2 smaller and has the same section width?

Any other tires sizes that I should look at? ,or shall I stick with the Pirelli 205/70/15

                Thank again for the responses.

Another tire that I've had good luck with is the B.F. Goodrich Touring T/A on a midyear.

                    William,

                    When talking about rolling circumference:
                    7.75-15 = P205/75R15 = 215/70R15 = 225/65R15
                    8.15-15 = 235/65R15

For my money, I would have to say that there will be NO match to this tire, especially considering the price! There is NO other Z speed rated tire available in this size. This is a high quality, high performance, "grand touring" all season tire. There are NO summer tires (ie: so called Ultra High Performance, Max HP or HP) available in this size, so, consequently, we are stuck with the cheesy H, S, and T rated tires.

You can't do better than Tire Rack....plus, you skip the sales tax if you don't live in IN. (Caution: Don't forget to include it on next year's income tax return)

My question to you before was: what are you going to mount them on. Rim size and offset is critical with C2's, as there is minimal room. As an example, I am looking at 15 x 7" rims with -5mm offset and 3.80" backspace. I'm pushing my luck with these as far as fit goes, so I will "settle" for a set of 15 x 6" rims with +4mm offset and 3.66" backspace.

Here is another tire that you might find interesting:

Note the difference in price between these, and the 215/70R15. These are OEM equivalent "run flat" tires, categorized as "summer high performance". Run flats are quite a bit heavier than standard tires, and significantly increase unsprung weight..............stay away from them if possible.

I am using a standard ralley wheel 15x6, I will purchase the p4000 @ Tire Rack.

Thank you all for the input.
