    1967 radial tire size ?

What size Coker red-line radial tire will fit in an original 1967 spare tire tub and allow it to close and lock properly ?

    Joe,
I know the 215/70/15 Coker redline radial will NOT fit in the tub and close properly even with the extended redline bolts.

Rick, is the tire (215/70/15 Coker redline radial) too wide or too big in diameter? By the way what does the diameter measure on the Coker? thanks

If you go to the Coker site you can get the diameter of the tire. You can then calculate the circumference. 2 p r for example diameter is 27.42 - 27.42/2*3.14. Then take a piece of masking tape and install around the tire tub. Remove tape and measure and see if the diameter will work.

          Gene,
The tire just barely fits in the tub so the diameter is little too much. The lid will not close properly, a pretty good gap.

            What about a 205/70R15 radial?

I would like to clarify my first post because it sounds like I stated that a 215/70/15 Coker redline would not fit in the tub. The tire will fit in the tub, very snug but it will fit. The problem is that the lid will not close properly, even with the longer redline bolt.

                Chris,

I have the Coker Classics 205/75R15 radials on my 67.

The spare fits in the tub, but you need the longest front bolts.
When the tub is closed I have about a 1/2" gap at the front of the tub to full closure. But it works for me.

                  Gerald,
                  Longest front bolts?

Can you help me better understand that?

                    Chris -

67's had two lengths of the long front bolts that support the spare tire tub lid from the frame crossmember; cars with standard blackwall/whitewall tires used a bolt that was 9-1/4" long, and cars with redline tires (which had a wider cross-section) used a 10-1/4"-long bolt.

Gotcha, so if I'm getting a 205/70R15 radial, then it would be a good idea to get the longer bolts. Got it, thanks John.

                        Chris,
Be sure to bring your wallet when you go to buy those bolts. Last time I checked they were really expensive.

If you do go this route, I'd sure appreciate if you would post a picture of what the tub looks like with the tire installed. I'm curious to see how far the lid hangs down with the long bolt and the 205 in the tub. I run 215s and have thought about trying the long bolts but have hesitated experimenting at that price. Please be sure to share what you find.

                        Thanks in advance.

Anyone want to swap their 10" bolts for my 9" bolts?

Chris - Sorry to say but $25 sounds like a bargain. I seem to recall $40 last spring. Where are you looking at for the $25 bolts?

Good luck and let us know what you do.
