    Fast Steering Adapter

Were any/all 1957 Fast Steering Adapters stamped with a part number? If so, what was the number and where was it stamped? How about subsequent years?

    Thanks!

    Steve:

I bought an original in the early 70s. I don't know what year it is for. No part numbers.

      Bill,
When you bought it, did you get it from the Chevy parts dept, of from an individual?
If you got it from the parts dept, did it include the two tapered bolts with nuts and the U-clamp, or did those come as seperate parts?

        Tom:

Bought the whole HD suspension from an individual. He decided not to install it on his '56...! (I remember he enlightened me about all the early '56s having dual quads.)

Springs were new from service. Sta. bar was used. I had a tough time finding the right frame bushings for the bigger front bar. The steering adapter was used and came with all the parts.

          Re: Fast Steering Adapter

Fast steering adapters from GM had no part number stamped in them from the factory. Some of the repros are very good--others are junk. The welds, the bend, the taper inside the holes is all a dead giveaway on the poorer ones.

Thanks All! I bought mine OTC in the mid-late 60's and no number or any stamping. These things had to be a job lot production. Crude by todays standards. I remember in Vette Super Shopper (remember that one?)there was someone in the early-mid 70's selling a repro.

I pulled mine off of a car in an Okla City salvage yard about 1974, and promplty chrome plated it along with ALL the other front/rear suspension/chassis components. Oh well-----------------

                Tom:

Are you looking for one of the tapered studs? I don't have any extras, but I'll keep my eyes open for one.
