I read somewhere, (I think Noland Adam's Book) that the tank stickers started showing up in late 66? Anyone found one? If so how late? Thanks.

Re: Tank sticker on a 66?
Thanks! I found the excerpt, Resto Tech Guide Vol 2 Pg. 329, Fuel & Exhaust,..."The 1966 fuel tank was formed from stamped metal with a 20-gallon capacity, identical to those used in previous years. A copy of the build manifest (otherwise known as the window sticker), showing all the options on that particular car, may be glued on the top of the tank. Although this practice officially began with the 1967 model year, several late '66s reported the build manifest." I am looking at a 66 NOM with alleged options that has a May 27, 1966 birthday and was wondering if I should take the borescope along....
I guess not. Maybe a mid to late July birthday?

Re: Tank sticker on a 66?
If someone could post a tank sticker find and the production date for a 66 car, that would be interesting
and good data on history of when it started on late 1966 cars. Thx Tony- Top

Re: Tank sticker on a 66?
My early 67 is an L79 from the St. Louis plant. The car has exhibited several anomalies during restoration. The door panels were date stamped on the inside with the date of Sept. 6 1966 which is the same as the delivery date. That wouldnt seem possible. The car is Marlboro maroon with dark saddle interior yet the dash tabs that are riveted to the door pillar posts with black rivets are the same saddle color as the dash and not painted with the exterior maroon color. One of the rubber door wipes was a attached to the stainless molding with rivets the other with staples. The radio volume and tone control bezels were from a 66 corvette but the knobs are 67. Since the car was almost 3 years old when I bought it its possible that might explain some oddities like a missing tank sticker if the tank was replaced during those first 3 years. Some of the other oddities are harder to explain.

Re: Tank sticker on a 66?
I have a very late 1966 small block, #27592 of 27720. It was built on the second from last day of production, 128 cars from the end. I can document the car all the way back to 1976. I've spoken to every owner of my car since 1976. In 1982, a previous owner of my car gave it a mechanical overhaul and a body on restoration. One of the things he did was to drop the gas tank specifically looking for the build sheet. According to that previous owner, there was no evidence that any such sheet was ever there. Furthermore, it was his opinion, based on the original condition of the car, that it had never been restored or altered in any way, and that the gas tank had not been removed to that point in time.
