John, per the Birthday Book, 6th ed., #2629 was assembled Friday, Sept. 17, 1971. The last one assembled that day was #2689 and the first one was 2578.

Hi Bill! I dropped a "1", the most important one! #12629 per the BDB was Mon, Jan 31. The first car that day was #12550 (providing no week end OT) and the last #12661.

        Thanks for catching that!

John, according to the 4th edition of the 1970-1972 NCRS Technical manual (which I strongly suggest you purchase, as it is the best resource for all the correct information for our cars).
1972 base engine casting numbers are divided into 2 categories (early and late) I'm sorry I don't know when the cutoff is.
          Early drivers side - 3989036
          Early pass. side - 3989036
          Late drivers side - 3932461
          Late pass. side - 3932461
*those 200 hp (base engine) Corvettes delivered for sale in California were required to be equipped with NB2 which included among other items AIR (Air Injector Reactor), therefore, those manifolds were drilled and tapped for the AIR fittings. Base engine Corvettes delivered for sale in the other 49 states were not equipped with an AIR system nor drilled or tapped for the AIR fittings. In either case the casting numbers are the same.
Date codes - exhaust manifolds have a cast date code, which follows the alpha-numeric code of the engine block without a year digit. On 350's the date can be seen with a mirror on the portion of the manifold that sticks up above the head. The date is not usually visible with the manifolds installed and therefore is not judged.
          Hope this helps.
          Roy

Check the tag in the door jamb. Your car was built at the end of Jan. '72. It should have an "F" and two numbers after the word CHEVROLET in the upper right hand corner of the tag. The "F" being for January and the two numbers being the day in January. That be the build date.

              John,
Why not look at the date on the trim tag? That is the date the judges will use when judging your car.

All the birthday books are just a waste for C3s. Those books are designed for the earlier cars where the build date is either non-existent or because the body might have been built other than at St. Louis the body build date does not sequence with the VIN.

                  John,
Would you be kind enough to PM me the date on yout trim tag, or post it here so I can add it to my records?

                  Thanks
