correct and detailed engine bay of 68 without engine in please!

I have some things that I am questioning and if someone had a engine bay picture of a 68 before they put the engine back in that would be great!

    thanks

Here are pic of where I'm at with mine..just giving it a freshen up but while I'm at it why not make it pretty much correct while I do it yanno. So, one of my things now is getting a picture of the a-arm dust shields I bought new ones as you can see I'm holding up but not sure how they look installed I think my originals aren't right going by another member since they have that rod hole through them...not sure how to orient them so that won't happen with the new ones.

    Hi Brandon

A arm splash shields. There is a left and right side.
Just follow the same install method of your old ones. Take the staples out with thick needle nose plyers and later put them back the same way.

Under the original flaps there should be no black out. When you have finished putting on the new flaps then lightly spray around the out side of the flap partially covering some of the staples that are stapled out side of the flap.

NOS flaps are thicker than repops. As I recall you are on a budget so go with what you have.

Is the paint on the car original??? Questions to address later.

What is the serial number of your car I don't need the last 2 digits. Also what is the assembly date of your car- on your drivers side piller post.

Does your car have Power brakes??? If not the part number on your M/C should be a 509 and DC stamped on the front boss.
    Other than that......nice car.

Brandon I always have liked the color of your car on the 68's. Mine is Rally Red.
Just took a look at my original owner 68 and one of my front top staples on the drivers side is still in place but the dust shield has separated and dropped down an inch or so.

The view shows me that there is unpainted fiberglass under the dust shield. Wonder if the paint was swabbed on with a mit or sprayed surrounding the dust shield?

My original dust shields (build date FEB 1968) do not have the holes to display the top of the shock through them.

The bottom of my dust shields are tucked into/under the control arm.

The dust shields you show do not appear to be the same texture as the ones installed on your 68. If your car was mine I would just tuck the shields with the holes into the control arm and leave the stapled dust shields in place.

Ok I think I see what to do with them...you tuck them up under ok I had a member telling me that but it didn't click until looking back on a pic just now what exactly he was talking about but I think I see what he means.

I think I'll just keep the originals on there and send the ones back from paragon since they're not exact.

          What, you didn't believe me??

Just FYI: Every Corvette from at least 1963 to 1982 has the dust shields installed around the upper control arm just like this. And also every Chevrolet vehicle I have encountered from 1964 to 2001 has them the same way. The lone exception that I can think of was my fathers 1960 Corvair. I think my 1937 Cadillac might not have these kind of dust shields either, btu since it has been apart for thirty years, I can't say for sure.

In the first photo the shock absorber is not OEM. The dust shields are held to the inner fender with push pins because this is a 1970. 1968s get the staples, like the mid-years. The original bushings and upper shock washer are in the second photo. And by the way, that upper shock washer is correct for 1964 (I think) to 1982. Genaric GM stuff.

haha no no...I just couldn't get in my head what you were describing but the picture shows that finally clicked in my head how they should be. To be honest the way mine are now looks more like I would have thought they was made to lay instead of tucked under. I'll tuck mine down like that and just keep the originals on I hate repo's I'll send them back or give them away.

I guess it is a case of a picture being worth a thousand words -- or in this case two thousand.

I have to thank you for your questions. While looking at the original shocks and allied parts, I found the original exhaust manifold flange nuts. I have been looking (off and on) for them for about a decade now. Another case of the reproductions being not quite like the originals.

                Hi Grant,

The paint isn't original on the car it lost it's original paint in 2005 when we had it re-painted.

The serial is 404080 thats off the top of my head but I believe thats right.

The car is date D07 which I believe is nov. 1967 so it's a fairly early built 68 car.

Ha, thanks but thats funny because although I've grown to somewhat even like the cordovan maroon I didn't like it at first but after going through the car (made 3 trips before I bought it) and making sure everything matched etc..I figured I could get over the color since it seemed to be a nice car I would have perferred it to be red like yours but like I said it's grown on me.

My fav color would have been lemans blue with a white top now that is sharp IMO

I'm going with your advice I'll sticking with the originals and just tuck them under..the holes aren't that big of a deal to me maybe they will even be covered up.
