63 carpet support clip and rivets

I am trying to install the carpet support clips on a 63. I got the "carpet support clip rivets" from LI Corvette. I tried and push a rivet through the hole but would not go far enough. I then drilled out one of the old rivets and the same thing. I am missing something or do I just need to send rivets back and get shorter ones?

    Thanks in advance.

The carpet support clip rivets are shown AIM Section 1-A20 #5 The description is "3/16 X 3/8 Flat Head Rivet with 9/16 Head Dia." Hope this helps.

      The pop rivets are longer

so you just need to drill through the underlying layer to be able to seat them flush. They make this repair an easy task. Thanks to LICS for making them available.

Don't you have to get to the other side of the rivet so it can be set?
I am having understanding. The reason I ask is because there is one on my car that needs to be replaced..

          Tim -

Those retainer clips were riveted to the sill off-line before the sill was bonded into the underbody; there's no access to the other end of the rivets to buck them on a completed car. Use pop-rivets or screws.

Thanks John - Now I know what clips were being discussed.
