    58 carb load up

Back to the single original carb for the 283 230 single carb app., weather is better so can road test now, the last couple of trips on the road the carb seems to load up, can only gas it a little in all gears, when it is warm it runs just fine, everything under hood is new, correct and rebuilt, would that be the choke or ? thanks Brad.

    Brad:
I had a similar problem when finished with my 58. It was not the carb, but the repro air cleaner. It would not flow enough air. I had it exchanged and we run fine. When not being judged, I run with the GTO air cleaner set-up.

Frank, seems I have had the air cleaner off when testing and it still loads up, what year gto and size are you running, seems air flow would be the same with engine cold or hot. Thanks Brad.

Did you check to see if the choke opens while at idle with the air cleaner off when it gets to operating temp.

Roy, Hi again, being a novice what am I looking at the choke to view this, cover off or what? Thanks again Brad.

Well first you wont to check to see if the choke is held down closed to hard when the engine is cold. You should be able to open it using your finger with little pressure when cold. Second check to see if the vacuum that draws heat from the manifold is working ( disconnect the line going to the choke cover to see if it's working) (put a little spit on your finger and see if it's pulled in). When the engine is hot is the choke then wide open.
When you said it (load up when cold) makes me think the choke is adjusted to tightly closed when cold.
