    That's an "owners choice" item - you can present the car for Flight judging either with the soft top stowed and the hardtop on or with the soft top up.

    If presented with the hardtop on, judges will verify the presence of the stowed soft top, but won't judge it.

        Ray,

        I went with the hardtop, because I thought it would judge better than my soft top. Make sure you're using the correct hardware to attach your hard top. It's up to you. If you go with the hard top, just make sure the soft top is in properly stowed in the car.

          I have somewhat of a "technical" question and in no way trying to "fudge" the judging process. I'm planning on getting my 67 judged sometime within the next year or so and plan on using a hardtop I am restoring to NCRS standards. My car (Maroon/Saddle) presently currently has a saddle soft top which I realize was not an option in 67. I have thought of spending the money on the correct black or white top for judging but really like the looks of the saddle top and would probably put it back on after judging if I did in fact have to get a black or white top. My question is, if I have the correctly restored hardtop on the car and my saddle top stowed correctly will I lose points on having the wrong color soft top? Again, I'm not looking to bend the rules or open a can of worms. Thanks for any input.

              That sounds like my experience - although I didn't know the judging school was going to be an official deal. I didn't bring my original key or fire extinguisher, didn't have my NCRS sticker on, or have a battery cut-off. If I'd had those I would have made 2nd Flight - missed by 0.5%...

              A chair, and lots of water would be good. Have fun!

              Cheers!

                one final thought on soft top vs hardtop - yes, in Flight judging it is up to the owner which way to present the car - and yes, the judges will note if the soft top is present - they will also note if there is a presence of the additional holes for the hardtop, etc. if you go the soft top route

                WORD TO THE WISE! - for PV (know this isn't being discussed), if the car is a TWO TOP car, the owner must have BOTH present and they both must be correct for the car and they both must be demonstrated to work properly

                  Jeff makes a good point about bringing the appropriate tools for assembly and disassembly of covers, etc. More specifically, if you have your car judged with the hard top, make sure you have the hard top wrench in the glove box. I had my car judged with the hard top, and the judges specifically asked to see the "hard top wrench." It's a 7/16" x 1/2" double open end that was made by Vlchek. Occasionally they're advertised on Ebay as originals (who knows??). I do know there's a pretty good reproduction out there for about $15 or so.

                      Michael;

                      Bring a pair of fender covers as well... When I had my car judged last year I had to borrow a pair.... I'm not sure if the judges are supposed to have them or not.. in my case they did not. Also you will need to remove anything "non-original" (except the fire extinguisher) from the interior. I had a pair of stuffed dice hanging from the mirror and was advised to remove them before judging began!

                      Good luck, it's actually a fun event!
