While I had my side pipes off I thought this was the reight time to do my frame stenciling. Checking the archives I see where it seems for midyears at least it is incorrect to spray paint them on. There was also mention that rolling it on you need to watch for runs or paint blotches under the stencil. I thought I was prepared with small roller (3"x1/2") and roller pan from Hone Depot. I cut the stencil down to size so I could tape it onto the frame and tried to keep it with no gaps between the stencil and frame. I then put a small amount of paint on the roller spreading it out evenly and at the same time making sure not to have any EXCESS. I rolled over the stencil two times lightly but filling in the digits. After waiting for about 15 minutes removed the stencil and sure enough it had blotches. I did this 4 times experimenting a little different each time and also cleaning stencil after each time. The one thing I learned is if I was working at the Corvette plant I would probably NOT be in the stencil painting department. Any suggestion about how to do this is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re: Frame stencil midyear
The frame stencil wasn't done at St. Louis - it was done in the Shipping Department at the A.O. Smith-Granite City, Illinois frame plant, with little concern for how precise it looked.- Top

Re: Frame stencil midyear
It's pretty funny. I can get out of almost ANY painting that has to be done around the house. My father-in-law was a painter by trade for almost 40 years so when it came to any re-painting around the house I was the last one that got a brush. I would end up with it up to my elbows and all over the brush. My wife said I did it on purpose to get out of doing it. Damn she caught on.- Top
