    Paint removal engine pad

What's the best solvent to remove paint from the engine pad; I tried laquer thinner with Q-tips but I think I'll die of old age before the paint comes off.

    Thanks,

    Don

Don I would have tried laquer thinner first also, but again it is a long process. Small amounts of paint remover may work but be very careful with the surrounding parts. I would first try a heat gun, when you start to see the paint bubble use a non-metallic instrument to remove the paint. You can soak rags with water to protect the area around your work.

I have applied a liquid paint remover with a foam brush, let is sit for a little while and swipe off the paint.

Any type of paint stripper will work. Use a Q-tip to wipe the stripper on the pad. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off. It may take a few times of doing this, but the paint will come off. Watch so you don't get any of the paint stripping on other parts!

As a next step, either for after paint removal or for those of us running bare for so long, how do you best preserve a bare pad so it remains clean of rust, etc.? After they weather a while, it gets hard to read them.

From time to time I smear a LITTLE clean motor oil on my bare pad. It lasts a long time, is very resistant to rusting, and can be easily wiped off for judging.

Painters will have a fit, but I put silicone grease on my pad.
