    Header Panel Reinforcement Glue

The body is almost ready to go back on the chassis. I had a few very small bumps on the header panel, between the headlights and the hood, from corroded rivets in the header reinforcement and had planned to let them go as they would likely sand out. But then I figured, while I'm here I may as well do it right. I'm glad I did because after pulling the reinforcement down, I saw that each of the rivets had a significant amount of corrosion on the heads that was pressing against the underside of the header panel, so the problem would have undoubtedly gotten worse with time.

My question is about the glue that was used to hold the reinforcement in place. The rest of the car is held together with the conventional resin/talc type glue that dries very hard. The glue that attached the reinforcement bonding strip to the bottom of the header seems to be some type of rubber/silicone based product. It's still pliable.

Does anyone know what this glue is, where I can get some or why a different type of glue was used? Assuming I can't get anything like the original stuff, will using the hard drying resin/talc glue cause problems? Thanks.

Fixed These Several Times .( I ASSUME YOU DREMELED OUT EACH OF THE CORRODED RIVITS, IF NOT YOU'LL NEED TO ) THEN ,Go To An Autobody Supply Store ,get Either 3m Duramix Or Lord Fusor Product ,you'll Have To Buy Their Special Gun To Apply It But It'll Work. Originally 70-72 header bars would have been glued with the normal body resin materials. Only later ones or replacements used the urethane type bonding agent. It really makes little difference which type you use, unless you are trying to duplicate the original stuff. Any of the epoxy or urethane products would do just fine.

Thanks guys. It's a no hit body with no evidence at all that the header reinforcement has ever been out of the car. I was thinking that a rubber based adhesive was used to allow some flex without splitting the seams, maybe I'm just over thinking it. If you've had luck with the regular hard drying adhesive, I'll just use that.
