Can I put the internals of a 1964 rear end into a 1963 casing? I have a 64 now in my 63 and would like to put the correct casing in the the internals I just had done.

Jerry, Yes, you can put a 64 posi/open case into a 63 carrier. The 63 and 64 cases were made by the same folks (Dana). You can put a 65 and later case into the 63 carrier also. The only difference on installing a 65 and later case is the shim thickness when installing the posi/open case into the carrier. The shims need to be made thinner. Just check the dates and spline counts on the ring and pinion. You may or may not care about that.

The Dana case is prone to failure, the Eaton case is much stronger. I have a 69 posi unit (Eaton) in my 63 carrier.

Thanks for the feedback. Now all I need is a 63 carrier that is correct for my May 63 car and carrys a 3:36 code. I don't remember what that code is off the top of my head.

Jerry, CB is 3.36 posi and CA is 3.36 open as I recall.

On my April 20th built car, I have CB 4 10 63. The cast date is 12 24 2.
